BIIAB Accredited MAYBO Physical Intervention Training

BIIAB has long recognised the need for door supervisors, as well as other staff in front-line roles, to be taught formaly about physical intervention.

Most door supervisors have received no formal training in physical intervention as it is not a requirement of the SIA training and previously there has been no formal accredited physical intervention training available. Not only do door supervisors, as well as many other front-line staff in the licensed trade, leave themselves vulnerable to assault, but they can also risk prosecution if they are found guilty of assaulting customers. In the case of door supervisors, they can also run the risk of losing their SIA License, essentially just for “doing their job”.

The BIIAB has recognised the importance of physical intervention training and, together with Maybo, the conflict management specialists, accredited this Physical Intervention Training Program. COI-Freelance Ltd is delighted to be one of the first companies in the country to be able to offer this brand new Physical Intervention Program and is committed to providing excellent training to the security and hospitality industries.

This BIIAB accredited physical intervention training course is a unique physical skills program that is simple and effective, yet lower in risk for the staff using them and the individuals to whom they are applied. The non-aggressive skills taught on the course help to calm situations because they don’t use pain to seek compliance. They are taught in a way that enables staff to identify the least adversive options to achieve the objective. Based on simple yet powerful principles men and women confidently apply these skills in a range of environments to protect themselves, their colleagues and customers.

  • Disengagement:
  • This training examines how staff can reduce the risks of assault through non-physical measures and avoid assault through their positioning and approach. They then learn how to disengage from the most common types of assault they can face in their role. This can extend to coming to the aid of another person and non-restrictive guiding skills.
  • Escorting and Holding:
  • Where the job role may legitimately involve physically escorting or holding an individual, holds are taught that help to protect staff and avoid pain or discomfort for the individual. Such techniques may be required in a variety of frontline roles.

All skills have undergone expert medical and legal review.

The physical intervention training course is only open to candidates who hold a valid SIA Front Line Door Supervisor License, candidates who have qualified for the SIA Front Line Door Supervisor license, or hold just Unit 2 of the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors (or equivalent), or the BIIAB Award in Conflict Management.
